This Biosphere Reserve includes the totality of the Berlengas archipelago, as well as the adjacent marine area to a maximum depth of 520m. The importance of Berlengas as an island ecosystem, the biological value of the surrounding marine area, the botanical interest, its role as a place of passage and habitat of migratory waterbirds and the presence of interesting underwater archaeological heritage give the Berlengas an obvious ecological and cultural interest. In this service are included 3 levels of zone protection: Core Zone; Buffer zone; Transition zone.

A Tipologia de áreas urbanas, para fins estatísticos, foi objeto de revisão em 2014. A 39.ª (2014) Deliberação da Secção Permanente de Coordenação Estatística do Conselho Superior de Estatística publicada no Diário da República, 2ª série, n.º 144, de 29 de julho de 2014, aprovou assim a referida tipologia bem como a sua aplicação a todas as freguesias do País, substituindo a anterior versão de 2009. A nova Tipologia de áreas urbanas (TIPAU 2014) consiste, à semelhança da versão de 2009, numa classificação tripartida das freguesias do território nacional em Áreas predominantemente urbanas (APU), Áreas mediamente urbanas (AMU) e Áreas predominantemente rurais (APR). A TIPAU 2014, para além de permitir a classificação do território nacional nas três categorias acima enunciadas, segundo o seu grau de urbanização, permite ainda definir “População urbana” como a população residente em APU (conceito 3915) e identificar e delimitar áreas urbanas com designação própria, enquanto conjuntos de freguesias APU contíguas, confinados ao limite do município.

The global evaluation is a conclusive parameter of the species conservation status in their biogeographical region, reflecting the results of the conclusions on the evaluation of the range, area, structure and specific function and future perspectives, in accordance with the requirements of the global evaluation matrix of conservation status.
